Fallen Again…

image

A secret simmers within
Blood cold and fearful
Not ready to release it
Drowning a heart so tearful

Secrets often shatter
The ones we love the most
Destroy trust and confidence
Heavy strains are imposed

She’ll be met with unconditional love
There will be certain acceptance
Loving embraces and encouraging words
Caring and generous forgiveness

But how does one set out to break a heart
Cause disappointment and pain
All the good intentions in the world
Couldn’t keep her from falling again

To Be A Shelter… Poem A Day Prompt: Shelter

image

I want to be a shelter,
To people in my path.
Those I meet upon my journey,
Sharing the love I have.

I want to live with arms open,
Welcoming hurting souls.
To love unconditionally,
And help shoulder people’s loads.

I want to refrain from judgment.
I want to see people as they are.
Through lenses of compassion,
To comfort their unhealed scars.

I want to be a sanctuary,
Sharing the light I have to give.
Reflecting kindness and beauty,
This is what I wish.

Dedicated to My Mom and Sister. Unconditional…

Un-cried tears in silence.
Prayers on bended knees.
Wakeful moments in the dark,
Preceding interrupted sleep.

Arms wrapped around me,
Reluctant to let me go.
Watery eyes at my departure,
Would they see me again? They didn’t know.

Addiction is a selfish affliction.
Eyes closed to other’s closed eyes.
To the countless increased heart beats,
At the answering of phones late at night.

I wish I could have been able to stop,
At the breaking of their hearts.
Maybe even if I just hid it better,
Kept it together, rather than falling apart.

They loved me unconditionally through it,
The years of blatant self-destruction.
On bended knees, with loving embraces,
Through disappointments and pain, they didn’t let on.

Nothing I could ever say would suffice.
There aren’t words of gratitude enough.
But I plan, through my actions from this moment on,
To make amends, and return to them their love.

Dedicated to my amazing mom and sister.
With the love you’ve given and taught me, I thank you.

Love Is The Answer…

image

Tit for tat world,
You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours.
What have you ever done for me?
I owe you absolutely nothing.
I’ve given you a lot,
You should now give me what you’ve got.

Selflessness lacking.
Unconditional love crashing.
It’s all “me,me,me” everlasting.
Giving Is just too taxing.
Get ahead, possessions amassing.
Hurting those in the way, people-slashing.

Will we change with recognition?
Can we accept conviction?
Alter our perspective regarding division?
Connecting humanity with new vision?
Is cooperative unity such an abstraction?
Are we willing to exit our self-centered prisons?

It begins with me, it begins with you,
Love is the answer; let’s start anew

Pause And Consider…

If we loved others as we love ourselves

Would that be loving them at all?

——Giving is contingent on having something to give

If we love ourselves as we love our neighbor…What would that look like?

They are one and the same, interchangeable

If we expect to be forgiven the same way that we forgive

Would our forgiveness be fleeting and conditional?

Would we nurse resentments while we live?

If we took more than a moment to examine

What we think and believe

If we paused to consider at all

Would we find unsurfaced contradictions in understanding?

Would we ignore, or seek remedy?

We are connected, one to the other

Just below the surface we intertwine

Contributors to the same light and same darkness

Existing in realms hidden

The notion of our own island is an illusion

Love is the ultimate answer, all inclusive

Love of others, love of self

We are created with purpose

Hatred fuels separation

Poisons the soul

Assaults our brothers and sisters

Builds walls where none should go

Life is so much more than our own desires and designs

I wish you love for right now and all times
