Poetic Journey in Personal Discovery

Desert Tortoise “Hope”

What seemed like endless searching,

Motion-filled hours staring at the ground.

Hot sun barreling down upon us,

Wind and dust stirring all around.

Each four-wheeling excursion,

We envisioned finding you.

Among an expanse of rocks, dirt and brush,

Seemed impossible, but we knew!

And there you were, at summers end,

Inching slowly on your way.

Rugged, beautiful, healthy,

You were so very worth the wait!

Just to see you up close,

Your sharp claws grasping the earth.

What a gift God gave us that day,

Our little desert tortoise named “Hope”

The Tulip Skeleton,

Ballerina in illusory pause.

Dancing upon desert terrain,

To nature’s endless applause…

Encounter With A Winged Jewel…

image

Zipping by, you caught my eye,
It was just you and me.
Elevated within a dusty landscape,
You danced among the manzanita tree.

A winged jewel,
Light, a servant to your colorful arrangement.
My eyes could not look away,
Mesmerized by the iridescent.

I watched as you took moments to rest,
Wondering if you knew I was present,
Intrigued that you were alone like me,
Party to solitudes’ peaceful gifts.

Upon discovering your name,
I find it suits your beauty.
Dear Anna’s hummingbird,
Thanks for pausing to let me see.

A Rainbow in The Desert…

Image

I saw a rainbow blaze the desert sky

The memory of, remains amplified

The colorful array gleamed perfection

For my attention, the heavens beckoned

My heart and mind gave a grateful reply

Against manmade structures and mountains high

A sight unexpected, that mystified

Beauty I didn’t know to imagine

I saw a rainbow

Rainbows were always in ample supply

When I lived among the rains’ lullaby

With rain scarce, spectrums can simply become,

Common accents, with amazement deafened

I’ll always cherish the power of light

I saw a rainbow…
