See through…

image

Can you see through…

The muddy waters surrounding?
Will you reveal the way out?
Feet so far beneath the surface,
Merging with the sludge of doubt.

Existence relative to self awareness.
Perceptual evidence waning.
Afraid to look beneath the surface.
Adapting to the comfort of sinking.

To fight, trust.
To hope, cling to faith.
To emerge, strive.
Light and safety are in wait…

To Slay A Dragon…

image

How to slay a dragon
How to miss its fiery torment
As it chases you from dusk to dawn
Bringing fear and pain with it

Sword and shield in hand
Despite aggressive forebodings
Courage in the face of terror
Like David with stone and sling

Slaying a dragon
Requires faith and surrender
We cannot achieve this alone
God is our sword, stone…our ultimate defender

“A Time to Mourn, A Time to Dance”… (Tales of new beginnings)

Snap out of it; it’s over
There nothing you can do
The self pity is strangling
Move on and start anew

You’ve fallen and it hurt
You’re a little broken and bruised
But you’re on track to succeed
Get focused in that groove

I write for catharsis
I write so others feel less marooned
I write to encourage empathy
For people not like you

I’ve been on pause to mourn
I’m shedding the feelings of doom
Time’s stood still long enough
I must reclaim hope and gratitude…

This is part of my journey. My mistakes and trials help me grow. Acceptance has been hard this time, but I’m still here. I’m still breathing. My heartbeat and my pain are evidence of life, and I owe it to God, myself, and those I love… To strive.

Tell It To The Heart… (Writer’s Digest Poem A Day Challenge) Day 24

image

For today’s prompt, take the phrase “Tell It to the (blank),” replace the blank with a word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then, write the poem.

Tell it to the heart,
Which loves with compassion,
Striving to retain composure,
When the world around it’s crashing.

Tell it to the heart,
Struggling with each beat,
To stay strong
When it wants to retreat.

Tell it to the heart,
Alone in a prison of solitude,
In chains well polished
Each day like new.

Tell it the heart,
That won’t give up,
Until the flow of life
Gives way to death’s clutch.

Merge…

image

I am half of you,
Or are you half of me?
Which one of us wins,
In this yearning for superiority?

Images the same,
Together in separateness.
Yet unwilling to merge as one,
Hiding identical faces from acceptance.

A war we cannot win.
A battle we shouldn’t fight.
Futile efforts to remain apart.
With closed eyes, we’re both in sight.

I stare at you closely,
Uncertain if you are real.
We are two halves of a whole,
It’s time we unite and heal.

Return of The Dragon Night!

Bruce be nimble.
Bruce be quick.
Bruce take you out with just one kick!

Aside

Found in The “City of Sin”

Image

My friends gave me two weeks

Said I’d die if I moved to Vegas

Part of me feared they were right

With their “friendly” vote of confidence

I’m still alive two years later

Clean and sober almost a year

I’ve learned it’s not where I go

I can grow where I’m planted, and I’m planted here

Looking down from up high

Framed city in sight

I see newness and hope

It’s here I learned to fight

Perhaps it’s ironic that I’d discover sobriety

Amid the temptations in the “City of Sin”

I choose, with God’s help, life’s path

True change is not external; it comes from within!
