Fallen Again…

image

A secret simmers within
Blood cold and fearful
Not ready to release it
Drowning a heart so tearful

Secrets often shatter
The ones we love the most
Destroy trust and confidence
Heavy strains are imposed

She’ll be met with unconditional love
There will be certain acceptance
Loving embraces and encouraging words
Caring and generous forgiveness

But how does one set out to break a heart
Cause disappointment and pain
All the good intentions in the world
Couldn’t keep her from falling again

Love My Enemies?

image

My aim is one of obedience,
Not always a desire of my heart.
To love my enemies as I’m am told, (Matthew 5:43-45)
Despite their harshly inflicted scars.

Not only love, but bless them,
Do good to those who have hurt me.
I’m even asked to pray for them,
While no reasoning I can conceive.

There’s much I do not understand,
God’s thoughts and ways are higher than mine. (Isaiah 55:8-9)
What’s beyond comprehension in the natural,
I find works out for my good over time.

I approach this rule, leading with compassion,
Placing myself in that person’s reality.
Trying to grasp why they are as they are,
Knowing much is hidden from me.

In handling others with humility and love,
Forgiving, when it seems unjust.
I consider my many mistakes,
All my wrongs which unfairly remain hushed.

And I pray fervently for the strength I need,
To obey my Lord’s clear petition.
Knowing, left to my own efforts,
I’ll only know resentments painful repetition.

On Forgiveness…

Just happened upon this and thought I’d share!

“He that cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over which he must pass himself; for every man has need to be forgiven.”

— Thomas Fuller

Final Good-bye…

The final good-bye,
They could not have predicted.
Her grief was only slightly premature,
As she continued willing life into the lifeless.

Vainly hoping he’d pull through,
That the wounds weren’t all that bad.
But as the blood blanketed more of her hands,
She realized she was losing her dad.

She spoke offerings of absolution,
From the harm he had caused.
Making sure he knew she loved him,
Despite his errors and flaws.

She can’t be sure he heard her.
If he understood the love in her expressed sentiments.
But she swears she saw peace arrive,
As she witnessed his struggle’s end.

Pause And Consider…

If we loved others as we love ourselves

Would that be loving them at all?

——Giving is contingent on having something to give

If we love ourselves as we love our neighbor…What would that look like?

They are one and the same, interchangeable

If we expect to be forgiven the same way that we forgive

Would our forgiveness be fleeting and conditional?

Would we nurse resentments while we live?

If we took more than a moment to examine

What we think and believe

If we paused to consider at all

Would we find unsurfaced contradictions in understanding?

Would we ignore, or seek remedy?

We are connected, one to the other

Just below the surface we intertwine

Contributors to the same light and same darkness

Existing in realms hidden

The notion of our own island is an illusion

Love is the ultimate answer, all inclusive

Love of others, love of self

We are created with purpose

Hatred fuels separation

Poisons the soul

Assaults our brothers and sisters

Builds walls where none should go

Life is so much more than our own desires and designs

I wish you love for right now and all times
