Poetic Journey in Personal Discovery

Holding to the Slant…

slanted tree

Walking sideways in an upright world.

Or is it the other way around?

Am I upright while the world is sideways?

Was I meant to grow straight at one time?

If so when did I shift and why?

If I had it to do over would I wish for different?

Would I be satisfied with the sustaining roots I’ve known?

Would familiarity win out over the potential for an alternate reality?

Once questioned, will my tilt be plagued with difficulties arising from gravity’s pull?

Would I even realize the struggle existed without knowledge of the natural rule?

Awareness brings turmoil to once placid waters.

Ripples circulate confusion.

Ignorance, blissful yet lacking… there is more.

Straight or at a slant, all growth is toward the sun.

The shadows in life influence ones’ outcome.

Beauty in uniqueness, and dignity in the assigned self.

Striving is required, permanent stagnation not an option.

How much change can one affect? Outcomes by design or fluid?

Slanted in an upright world, or upright in a world that’s slanted.

One and the same it seems; balance is definition contingent.

  1. Great questions. Wish I knew the answer to them. Especially love the way you ended the poem. 🙂

  2. Lovely poems! Thanks for checking out my song on wePoets today – I appreciate that you took the time to listen.

    • For sure. I plan to spend some time on your blog. I really dig your musical style. Love poetry set to acoustics! Really lovely. Thanks for visiting my blog and for the friendly feedback. Wish you much success with your gift.

  3. This is a remarkable piece. Question not the slanter or the slantee, but embrace the uniqueness we are bestowed by our individual experience.

    • So, uh, you wanna be my cliff notes/synopsis dude? We can go on the road together and tame lions, collect five-headed turtles… Lol… My grandfather used to make EVERY accomplishment into an “on the road” show with him and I! I haven’t let that die. Of course he never mentioned five-headed turtles… Or any turtles- but same-same.
